To be honest I feel like f%#$ all of them cause they still haven’t helped me an it’s been exactly 5 months. I was 4 months pregnant when Katrina hit and my baby is very healthy but believe it are not I am not healthy, most people thought it was a joke but now can you still imagine losing everything you own from pictures to love ones being separated from everybody you love and knew. Having to start your life all over sounds like a fairy tale but it really happened. F%#$ then when it did happen they world seem to blame us for our lost. It took most of us our whole life to grow what we had then be sent to school that judges us kids from where we are from, and we be punished for that the students were during what they seen there teachers, and friends do. The problem that I still have is how someone could give over 50,000,0000 people maybe more a time line to find where they feel like home. That’s another reason why theirs so many of us New Orleanians dead or still can’t tell if they are alive. The world is coming to an end in the wrong way.
Signed: a frustrated black woman!!!!!

What da heck are you talking about?
Why does everyone think that FEMA and the government is responsible for anything that happens to them? I guess the people in the Dust Bowl or Depression were just sitting around waiting on the government to come make their lives whole! I think not. The people hollering the most, are the same people that didn’t have much before Katrina, but now believes they should get new housing, new cars, spending money. My entire neighbourhood was flooded and FEMA nor the Red Cross has given me a dime. Not to mention the insurance company only paying about 35% of repair cost. You didn’t want flood insurance because you did not want to pay for it or you didn’t think you needed it. NOW, because of your lack of responsibility, you think all tax payers should make you whole. People should live by their means. If you can not get a new car - get a used one. If you can not get a 3 bedroom house - get a 2 bedroom. Quit trying to say that life as you now it, is over because FEMA won’t give you money. Get a dang job. There are plenty around.

Everyone think we are looking for a handout. You have a wrong. We are looking for what is due to us and not a penny more. Most of us were hard working, tax paying individuals whose lives were torn upside down because the government (George W and company) decided to cut budgets. If it wasn’t for those cuts maybe the levess would not have breached. Get a dang job, I want my job back that I had, but that is not possible because I have no where to live in New Orleans. So before you start blasting people get your facts right Mr. Local Gov.

my facts are right!! I have lived through every hurricane in the Gulf for the past 50 years! Camille, Dennis, Ivan, Betsy. I have never received a dime for any destruction to my property. You say you just want what is due to you! WHAT is due to you? Absolutely Nothing! The federal government doesn’t owe you for the levee breaking. If your crooked politicians would quit stealing the money, maybe the levees would have been appropriate. Blame your officials. You know LA. has the most crooked officials in the USA. I think ya’ll are lucky that the insurance companies are giving ya’ll money. In MS., they are not paying out. If someone flooded, insurance gives them nothing. N.O. was no doubt flooded. We had wind and water and the only people that knows how all of our destruction was caused, is the Insurance Companies!!!! As far as you a FEMA trailer, ask one of your officials why there are 100s sitting in Brooklyn, Ms. and not moving. They have been there since the 1st week of Sept…. WHY!!!!

What do you mean they owe us nothing? They owe us. If that wasn’t so they wouldn’t have government offices like FEMA set up. I agree with you about the politicians. That is great that you have gotten a dime from the Gov. It is probaly because you do not need it. Well most of us do. Help, not handouts. I think you have some of us confuse with people who are looking for a free ride. I am not. As for as the trailers go, I do not want to live in a trailer, first of all they are tiny, I have a family of three. Second there is no place to put them. Politicians are down there fussing now because they do not want trailers in their district. Apartment complex have double their rent. Were you absent the day the budget cuts were done. Katrina didn’t destroy New Orleans, the levee breeching did. Why? Because of cut backs. Half of the budget was cut from that program. I know you have an answer for that Mr. Local Gov

But expensive, pointless wars matter more than your fellow countrymen, Local Gov? Glad to hear you don’t need help, but not everybody can be like you.
If people need help in times of disaster or emergency, the government is SUPPOSED to help out. If we sit here saying the government’s #1 duty is to keep us safe, then helping those displaced in these disasters should be priority #1.
Funny…the insurance companies should be tarred and feathered for their weaselly tactics of not paying out to policyholders like they should, yet I bet you think THAT is okay too right?

I am not against the government giving people and businesses money. I am 100% for that! I just do not believe the government is any way responsible and owes no one anything. Sure, I wish the government would make everyone whole. And they probably should. At the same time, they should make the insurance companies pay claims. In MS. there are 100,000 lawsuits because companies will not pay. If our government can give billions to rouge countries every year, they can surely pay all Katrina victims enough money to rebuild. And should do it. However, I still don’t believe they Owe us anything. AT least in MS they don’t. If you are correct about budget cuts and the levee, I might would have to rethink that part. But what I was told; was the money was there to build, shoreup, fix or whatever to the levees, but the politicians used the money for other projects instead. My brother (who is working on levees now) said they found out who did it and money was taken back in the 60s. Also the Red Cross should be forced to handout the money which people donated to victims. After 5 months, the RC has only issued 10% of the donations.

Ok We appear to be on the same page. The money was there for that (levee) but it didn’t quite make it. I don’t know what is happening with ARC. I am surprised, I never heard anything negative about them before. Good debate. Thanks

You have never heard anything negative about the red cross?!do a little research on their practices of collection v.s. distribution of donations for 911,katrina and the tsunami. It will open your eyes to the corruption.they have only given out a fraction of what they recieved in donations from katrina..i think its like 185 million of like 1.8 billion …no justification for that.after 911 they used majority of money for a “war fund”.not what the donations were given for….the ard cross is a big time scam, yes they help …to help themselves.you wouldnt even want to hear about the other things i heard they are doing in other countries tat they are supposedly helping….
