Dear Fema: Letters of Complaint to FEMA, Insurance Companies, Public Officials

State Farm Trying to Put the Screws to Us

Posted on 12/20/05

I live in Chalmette and the State-Farm adjuster took over 2 months to go to my house. I had over 10 feet of water in my house (thank you MRGO), and now State-Farm is offering approx 25% less than my policy limit. The adjuster never went inside because as he put it: This place is 100% damaged. Now he is all but trying to force me to take the settlement. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH - I guess this is going to drag out a long time. Now I have to file a compaint with the State Insurance Commissioner, and the Louisiana Attorney Generals office - Then hire an attorney. If this happens - not only do I want my full policy I want compensation for all the stress State Farm has caused me. If St.Bernard wants its people to come back - Force the insurance companies to live up to their end of the deal. Why did my agent let me pay for ALOT of insurance if his company is never going to pay.

OFFICIALS OF ST. BERNARD = HELP

  1. Ann, I’m with you there. State Farm has also screwed me over. Every house in my subdivision received over 8 feet of water. Every other homeowner has already received over 100k for the damages to their homes (not counting personal property coverage) and State Farm is only offering me 48K for my damages, less than 1/2 of what every other homeowner in my subdivision. With the recent legislation attempting to be passed, with homeowners who did not have flood insurance in MS to get 150K, I would have been better of not having had flood insurance in the first place.

  2. Ya’ll sound very lucky to me. In Gulfport and cities along the MS coast, Insurance cos. are paying very little. All of my family has State Farm. My mother lived on beach blvd. washing away her house (6 BR/ 6 bath). State Farm told her, “Sorry! flood got you” She also owned the house behind her which was completely destroyed but not washed away. They gave her 26k for the 4 BR, 3 bath, 2 story home. She had been paying full coverage insurance for 35 years on her home and received absolutely nothing. My sister was tickled pink because she is ONLY going to be losing around $50k on her house. Her neighbors came out much worse!
