FEMA is a joke. They turned down my claim for help paying for clean up, saying that I had insurance. Well, Insurance companies don’t pay for clean up of trees and debris. I spent over $22,000 and was reimbursed the maximum of $500 from State farm. Fema simply rejected my claim since I was insured.
Thanks Fema.

If you incurred substantial financial losses due to debris clean-up, and your insurance only paid $500, send in both the copies of your reciepts for the costs, and documentation of what your insurance paid out. I would also send a letter explaining your situation just as you did in your post, an request that your decision be appealed. I can’t promise anything, but if you can support your claim with the proper documenation, you should be eligible for more funds. -B

Jon-
I do encourge you to send that information to FEMA. You can fax it to 800-827-8112, or send it to:
FEMA National Information Processing Services Center
c/o Individuals and Housing
Po Box 10055
Hyattsville, MD, 20782-7055
You may want to sent it AND fax it, as sometimes mail is processed more quickly than a fax. Good luck! -B
